The Magician: The Master of Cause and Effect

In a world where magick is supposed to bring transformation based on practical living in the physical world and rituals of grandeur metaphysically there comes a balance. The people who proclaim a guru status are often regarded and sought out for their finite wisdom to create a change in reality. Some magicians are far better at mastering the laws of cause and effect than others. Therefore, the magician must be the master of change. The magician particularly does several steps: focus on the situation needing to be to changed, observes the situation, develops a solid theory to test, they take action then measure the results on a subjective level, and perfect the mannerism of their craft conducive for better results. Each of these steps play an equally vital role in personal growth on the drama-filled journey of magick.

Firstly, the energy worker must have singular focus on the situation. The most crucial stage starts here, it is much like writing. After all the word ‘spell’ in magick has its root in Ancient Greek for logos, or word. The writer begins with a list, free writing, diagram, or another way of organizing thoughts, I prefer the free writing method. If the writer chooses my method about a problem or wish to present subject this method is very chaotic at the beginning. However the magician who uses this method will write about a single subject or many subjects without care for spelling or grammar. The magician is the writer in this case and his opus (work) is the spell or intentions. As the magician organizes the thoughts on this issue then clarity reveals the true problem. Thus, we can acknowledge problem and magick can help us find a proper action to the situation.  How do I vent the situation?

Secondly, the practitioner of magick must look at the situation as an observer. Let us compare and contrast the magician to the writer again. The writer will reread his free writing or list and find a line that appeals to him/herself that serves as a thesis to the blog post. Then they will narrow down the subject to something specific. In this case, I made a conscious decision on my personal thought process to choose the best course of action in magick. Then I will proceed to address each and every supporting point to that topic as a writer to break things down in a rational, structured format to present my thesis to you. The magician takes the chaos by observing it and looks at the variables which caused the whole situation. The magician must ask, “What caused the situation?

Thirdly, the metaphysician is then made to formulate a theory. Once again this scenario, the writer will begin to see what possible changes and possibilities can occur based on several suggestions based on experiential factors, an expertise, or pure opinion. The magician does the same thing! Therein, collecting the data to process the proper course of action in his physical life and metaphysical practices to create a formula. The magick methodology is placed to determine the means that counter and overcome current events. Once this theory is set forth as an experiment then it can lay a well thought out course of actions. A situation was manifested and it can be transformed in other ways by the law of cause and effect. The question at this point is simple. “What can I do to change the outcome to my desire based on what I see?”

Fourthly, the magician does the action and measures the result. Much like a writer, the magician at this point has made the first draft, revised several times, edited, and published. Now stands two questions for the writer: 1) what was the quality of the execution in the entirety of the process and 2) did the audience engage as intended? The magician goes through the same process. When the spell is executed on both physical levels and energetic levels geared toward resolve then what is the end result. Was the right incense used to bring a love? Could you have used more potent materials? Did you put all your willpower into it? What were some things that could shorten the effects of the spell or prolong it after casting? Thus comes the timing after the will is sent to the universe. Most magicians will acknowledge that this time range has dynamic to the timing of full manifestation to the spell. So to measure a time can be difficult or in some cases more easily depending on the situation and the methodology of the spell. But we must bear in mind these two question, “What was the result of the action when it was manifested? Did the spell manifest at all?”

Lastly, the magician improves his craft after observing the result. A writer does this very same process when he rereads his published works. Maybe they overlooked an error, so they refrain from making the same faults. When taking constructive criticism and improving the writer will improve their craft. Magick is a craft as well, and rather imperfect one. Not every spell will work as intended or it will work ‘too well’. Thus, the magician must question how he drew his observations, theories, and action to the situation. This is the most honest part of the process. The magician must be brutally honest with themselves in humiliation to reflect for perfecting their craft. Every situation is different and demands different actions. So the magician must ask, “What could I have done better? What did I do right?

Conclusively, magick is a model of subjective experimentation. You are the craftsman and your practice is the vehicle of your magick. When we look at our model of magick through the eyes of our perception it something that is personal. Your results may vary and this is the beauty. It is a lifelong process that has constant tailoring and fitting based on the methods. Thus, through the process of critical thinking the magician is forced to a catalyst of transformation in himself and the environment.
